How to Live a Healthy Lifestyle

It’s a known fact that the best way to get healthier is to make changes to your lifestyle: eating better, moving more, stressing less.

It’s a well-known fact that this isn’t as easy as the popular health gurus would lead you to believe.

Lifestyle change isn’t easy–but we can make it easier.

The DIY Healthy Lifestyles Center is your own personal online health and wellness center. Its mission is to provide information, instruction, interaction, influence, and inspiration for creating your own wellness.

For people seeking healthier living, the Center presents a unique program of lifestyle change based upon its unique 5 Essentials for Healthy Lifestyles plan.

The program assures easier lifestyle change through a simple 5-point do-it-yourself plan. You’ll learn how to live a healthy lifestyle by changing negative health behaviors into positive ones.

The Center clarifies the wealth of wellness information that’s out there today. It can be confusing when many different books or websites tell you all the others are wrong.

At the Center, we’ve done a lot of the reading for you. We’ve weeded out hype from fact and  present it in clear, simple language that doesn’t assume you’already know all about wellness principles.

A Bit of  Natural Health History

HippocratesThe ancient Greek physician, Hippocrates, was the first to teach the concept of holistic medicine: the integration of mind, body and spirit for complete balance and wellness.

Hippocrates also wrote that the way to achieve health was through a positive mental attitude, a healthy diet of primarily vegetables and fruits, drinking plenty of pure water, and regular exercise for the body.

You can read more about Hippocrates’ teachings in this article from the DIY Healthy Lifestyles Journal, the Center’s e-magazine.

Since Hippocrates’ day, many, many more health practitioners have embraced the belief that a balance between mind, body, and spirit, along with several other dimensions, is necessary for healing and health maintenance.

5E4HL-wheelThe 5 Essentials for Healthy Lifestyles

The 5 Essentials for Healthy Lifestyles plan was compiled from research into several wellness programs covering a total of 30 unique dimensions.

Of course, 30 was far too many to work with so I compared and sorted the 30 dimensions into categories.

The result was five dimensions that were tagged as essentials for healthy living.

These five essentials are:

  1. Lifestyle Change
  2. Diet & Nutrition
  3. Fitness & Wellness
  4. Spiritual Living
  5. Healthy Environments

The DIY Healthy Lifestyles Center’s wellness programs begin with a discussion on the dimensions of wellness and further insight into how the 5 Essentials plan evolved.

Throughout these programs, you’ll learn how to:

  •        Create your own wellness plan
  •        Develop healthy lifestyle habits
  •        Adopt an organic, whole food diet
  •        Explore natural health and healing
  •        Discover inner peace and life satisfaction
  •        Foster and nurture all types of relationships
  •        Build healthier home and community environments

Just What Does the “DIY” Mean?

That’s the part that makes this program unique! As you might have guessed, it does stand for “do it yourself”. The 5 Essentials Plan and its programs focus on frugality and simplicity (that’s a nicer way of saying “cheap and easy”!)

rainbowsweatsBefore we go into that, let me introduce myself. My name is Kat and I’m the director of the DIY Healthy Lifestyles Center as well as the editor-publisher of the Journal and most everything else you’ll read here. And I really do look like this ‘mini-me’ caricature!

The DIY Healthy Lifestyles Center is the result of my personal and academic research into treating my 20+ year battle with fibromyalgia.

When conventional medical treatments weren’t helping me get better, I began researching ways to do it myself on a very tight budget. I won’t go into my whole story here because you can read it by clicking this link.
