How to Live a Healthy Lifestyle

It’s a known fact that the best way to get healthier is to make changes to your lifestyle: eat better, move more, stress less.

It’s a well-known fact that this isn’t as easy as popular health media would lead you to believe.

Lifestyle change isn’t easy–but we can make it easier.

The DIY Healthy Lifestyles Center is your own personal online health and wellness center. Its mission is to provide information, instruction, interaction, influence, and inspiration for creating your own wellness.

For people seeking improved health and wellness, the DIY Healthy Lifestyles Center assures easier lifestyle change through its unique five-point “do-it-yourself” plan. This plan can assure noticeable results within 90 days of active daily use. (Results may vary).

The information is presented in clear, simple language–with a touch of humor– that doesn’t assume you already know about health and wellness principles. You’ll learn everything you need to know as you go along.

Your Guide at the Center

rainbowsweatsHi! My name is Kat and I’m the program administrator at the DIY Healthy Lifestyles Center, and also the editor-publisher of Healthy Lifestyles Media.

I really do look like this ‘mini-me’ caricature. It’s part of that touch of humor I like to throw in to lighten things up a bit. It’s one of the ways to make lifestyle change easier.

The other is the DIY approach.

Just What Does “DIY” Mean?

In case you weren’t entirely sure, DIY does stand for “do it yourself”.

When it came to figuring out a plan for my own wellness, I had to do a lot myself. I lacked the means and resources to do the things most people would do: join a fitness center, buy equipment, get into a take-out smoothie club, and shop for supplements and remedies.

The 5 Essentials Plan focuses on frugality and simplicity. That’s a nicer way of saying “cheap and easy”. But like I said before, lifestyle change isn’t always easy but this plan strives to make it easier by making it simpler.

The DIY Healthy Lifestyles Center resulted from my personal and academic research into finding relief for fibromyalgia, degenerative disc disease. and related issues.

When conventional medical treatments weren’t helping me get better, I began researching ways to do it myself on a very tight budget. I won’t go into my whole story here because you can click here to read it.

(By the way: please also read this disclaimer while you’re there, if you haven’t already)

Anyone seeking healthy living can use this plan–you don’t have to be suffering from illness. All you need is a desire to get healthier than you are now and to do it for very little cost.

And you’ll find out how to do just that at the DIY Healthy Lifestyles Center.

As a matter of fact, why don’t we start with your first lesson right now?

Natural Health History: Ancient Greece

HippocratesThe ancient Greek physician, Hippocrates, was the first to teach the concept of holistic medicine: the integration of mind, body and spirit for complete balance and wellness.

Hippocrates also wrote that the way to achieve health was through a positive mental attitude, a healthy diet of primarily vegetables and fruits, drinking plenty of pure water, and regular exercise for the body.

The Hippocratic Oath that newly graduated medical students take comes directly from the words of Hippocrates. He advocated doing no harm” to the patient by bringing about wellness in the body through natural means.

Since Hippocrates’ day, many, many more health practitioners have embraced the practice of balancing mind, body, and spirit with natural remedies for healing and health maintenance.

5 Essentials for Healthy Lifestyles

The 5 Essentials for Healthy Lifestyles plan was compiled from research into several wellness programs covering a total of 30 unique dimensions.

Of course, 30 was far too many to work with so they were compared to find similarities between them then sorted into a more manageable list of categories.

The result was five dimensions that I determined were essentials for healthier living.

These five essentials are:

  1. Lifestyle Change
  2. Diet & Nutrition
  3. Fitness & Wellness
  4. Spiritual Living
  5. Healthy Environments

The DIY Healthy Lifestyles Center’s plan explores the dimensions of wellness and identifying those requiring attention in our personal lives.

The DIY Healthy Lifestyles Journal

You’ll learn about these dimensions and more through the DIY Healthy Lifestyles Journal, the Center’s health research journal cleverly disguised as a wellness e-magazine. The Journal promises to be both educational and entertaining.
